CigarMKE – How to Speak Cigar

June 29, 2014

As a public service, CigarMKE likes to educate the novice cigar smoker on the terms used with our passion.

According to Thompson Cigar Company, here are some common terms used in cigar smoking & their definitions

FILLER: Inner tobacco bulk of the cigar.

BINDER: Leaf that holds the filler together.

WRAPPER: The outer tobacco leaf covering of a cigar.

WRAPPER COLORS:
Medium Brown – Colorado, Connecticut, Sungrown & Natural
Dark Brown – Maduro
Reddish Brown – Rosado
Light Green – Candela or Cameroon if grown in Africa

SIZES:
Measuring system for cigars is done with length being shown in inches & thickness (or diameter) of a cigar in units of 64 (64 is equal to 1 inch).
Therefore a 5” x 48 cigar is, 5 inches long & ¾” diameter (1/64 x 48).

What is CigarMKE?
