Greenfield girls basketball
Solid defense, including a shutout in the fourth quarter, gave the Hustlin' Hawks a season-opening 40-22 victory over Milwaukee South on Nov. 20.
Greenfield was up 20-14 at the half and 28-22 after three quarters, then blanked South 12-0 in the fourth to put away the game.
Sara Kassel led the way with 10 points, while Erika Deubig added nine points and Mallory Klecka six points.
The Hawks took on Greendale on Nov. 27 and will welcome Whitnall at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30 in their first home game of the season. They will then host New Berlin West at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
Whitnall girls basketball
Ashley Markowiak dropped in a game-high 20 points to help the Falcons to a 56-52 victory over Brookfield East on Nov. 20 in the season opener.
Jackie Gruszka added 13 points with a trio of 3-point field goals and Ann Marie Bay put in 12 points for Whitnall, which saw a 10-point halftime advantage trimmed to just two points heading into the fourth quarter.
The Falcons then fell to Waukesha South, 50-44, on Saturday morning in the Brookfield Central Thanksgiving Shootout. Markowiak tallied 21 points and Bay 14 points, but South, led by Lexi Weitzer's 20 points, prevailed.
The Blackshirts outscored Whitnall 15-8 in the deciding fourth period.
The Falcons visit Greenfield at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, then travel to Cudahy at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
Greenfield boys basketball
Close wasn't enough for the Hustlin' Hawks in two losses last week.
Greenfield fell, 65-62, to West Bend East on Saturday and 68-64 to Shorewood in the Woodland Conference opener on Nov. 20.
Against East, Ricky Santiago tallied 16 points with a trio of 3-point field goals, while Travis Reszczynski added 14 points, Kyle Schahczinski 13 points and Josh Czerwinski 11 points. The Hawks hit a total of eight 3-pointers.
In the Shorewood game, Santiago put in a game-high 23 points and Reszczynski and Sonnie Wilbert 14 points each.
The Hawks visit Whitnall at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, Waterford at 5 p.m. Dec. 1 and New Berlin West at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4.
Hale girls basketball
The Huskies opened the season against powerful Whitefish Bay on Nov. 20 and dropped a 42-25 decision.
Bay, which was rated ninth in Division 2 in the preseason, opened with a 16-0 first quarter. Hale steadied after that and came within 10 points at the three-quarter mark but could not catch the Blue Dukes.
Sarah Mueller and Jennifer Jender each put in six points for the Huskies.
Hale travels to Slinger for another non-conference game at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 30, then visits Shorewood at 7 p.m. Dec. 5.
Hale boys basketball
The Huskies, who have been off since Nov. 16, return to action at 7:15 p.m. Nov. 30, when they visit Oak Creek.
They then welcome Shorewood of the Woodland Conference at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 4 in their first home game of the season.
Central girls basketball
The Bulldogs, who opened the season on Tuesday against Wilmot, welcome West Bend West at 7 p.m. Nov. 30 in a non-conference contest.
They next host Milwaukee Hamilton at 7 p.m. Dec. 4 in the final game before Greater Metro Conference action begins.
