Whitnall boys basketball

The Falcons tuned up for this week's WIAA Division 2 playoffs with a 64-37 victory over Greenfield on Feb. 22.

Ian Ray tallied 22 points, while Sam Mentkowski added 11 and Danny Weymier eight as Whitnall put 11 players in the scoring column.

The Falcons completed the regular season at 20-2 overall and 15-2 in the Woodland Conference as Black Division champions.

Whitnall opens regional action at home at 7 p.m. March 2 against either Union Grove or Catholic Memorial. If the Falcons win, they would play either New Berlin West or New Berlin Eisenhower at 7 p.m. March 3 at home.

They split two games with the Lions this season and lost, 51-50, to the Vikings.

Whitnall girls basketball

Ashley Markowiak had a big week as the Falcons split two contests.

Markowiak collected 21 points in a 50-38 victory over Greenfield on Friday. Ann Marie Bay put in 10 points and Rachael Shulta nine for Whitnall, which improved to 8-8 in the Woodland Conference and 11-10 overall.

Markowiak scored 26 points in a 61-59 overtime loss to Waterford on Feb. 21. Elena Busalacchi added 16 points and Shulta 11 for the Falcons, who forced the extra session with a 22-14 fourth quarter.

Whitnall will begin WIAA Division 2 regional play at home against Greendale at 7 p.m. March 6. The winner visits unbeaten New Berlin Eisenhower at 7 p.m. March 9 in a regional semifinal contest.

Hale girls basketball

The Huskies just missed placing four players in double figures in a 53-46 victory over Greenfield on Feb. 21.

Jennifer Stawicki scored 18 points, Rachel Seefeldt 11 and Erin Barbeau and Jazzmin King each nine points for the Huskies.

In Greater Metro Conference play, Hale lost 65-42 to Menomonee Falls on Friday night. Sarah Mueller totaled 11 points, Stawicki nine and Jennifer Jender eight points.

The Huskies (2-11 in the GMC and 4-17 overall) finish the conference season at Brookfield Central (8-5, 12-9) at 7:30 p.m. March 1, then open WIAA Division 1 tournament action at 7 p.m. March 6 at Milwaukee Madison/Northwest.

Central girls basketball

Mehryn Kraker scored 15 points to lead the way in a 44-20 triumph over Brookfield East on Friday.

Claire Hankins added 11 points with a trio of 3-point field goals and Jenny Wildes seven points for the Bulldogs.

Central fell to Oak Creek, 51-35, on Feb. 22 despite 19 points from Kraker.

The Bulldogs moved to 6-7 in the Greater Metro Conference and 7-14 overall. They welcome Wauwatosa East (4-9, 6-15) in the GMC finale at 7:30 p.m. March 1, then host Brookfield East again at 7 p.m. March 6 in a WIAA Division 1 regional contest.

Greenfield girls basketball

The Hustlin' Hawks dropped a 50-38 decision to Whitnall on Friday night in Woodland Conference action.

Amber Polachek totaled 16 points and Tania Alvarez eight for Greenfield, which fell to 1-15 in Woodland play and 3-18 overall.

Polachek also scored 16 points in a 53-46 non-conference loss to West Allis Hale on Feb. 21.

Greenfield has a first-round bye in WIAA Division 1 regional play next week and will open at South Milwaukee at 7 p.m. March 9.

Hale boys basketball

The Huskies dropped a 64-47 decision to Menomonee Falls in the Greater Metro Conference finale on Feb. 23.

Derrick Waller collected 16 points, Travis Balcerzak 12 and Steve Kopet 11 for the Huskies, who finished the regular season at 0-14 in the GMC and 5-17 overall.

They started WIAA Division 1 regional play Feb. 28 at Bradley Tech. If they won, they would play at top seed Milwaukee King at 7 p.m. March 2.

Greenfield boys basketball

Nick Jablonski totaled 18 points, but the Hustlin' Hawks fell to Whitnall, 64-37, in the Woodland Conference finale on Feb. 22.

Greenfield finished the regular season at 3-14 in the Woodland and 4-18 overall. The Hawks played at Oak Creek on Feb. 28 in a WIAA Division 1 regional game. If they won, they would play at top seed Milwaukee Hamilton at 7 p.m. March 2.
