Whitnall powerlifters capture state championship

The beat goes on for the Whitnall boys powerlifting team.

The Falcons claimed their fourth straight state championship last weekend and had three individual state champions with Danny Voelkel (114 pounds), Nate Stemo (148) and Jake Hardy (242).

Whitnall now travels to Wisconsin Dells this weekend looking to defend its national championship. The action begins on Friday and ends on Sunday afternoon.

Bowmen sponsor league for bowhunters this summer

The West Allis Bowmen are hosting a Lakeshore Bowhunters League this year.

The league, which is open to the public, allows binoculars and rangefinders but does not allow broadheads or crossbows. All shooting styles are welcome, and award categories are determined by equipment classification.

There will be 30 3-D targets on the outdoor range, and scoring will be 12-10-8-5 and two arrows per target.

Registration will be on March 31 from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and April 1 from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The shooting fees are $12 for adults, $6 for juniors, $4 for cubs and $24 for a family. Scorecards are due by 5 p.m. each Sunday.

Food and beverages will be available in the clubhouse.

Youth basketball tourney set for East Troy on May 4-6

North American Youth Sports still has openings in its annual spring basketball tournament at East Troy High School on May 4-6.

The tournament features 10 different brackets for boys and girls in grades five through 12. All brackets are based on the grade in which a student is currently enrolled.

The entry fee is $145, guaranteeing a minimum of three games, and there will be awards presented. The entry deadline is April 13.
