Nighthawks start 2-2 in Lakes Eastern Division
The West Allis Nighthawks are off to a 2-2 start in defending their Land O' Lakes Eastern Division championship from last season.
The Nighthawks (4-2 overall) are led by Brian Stoecklein at .375 with six runs batted in, Randy Reed at .300 with two home runs and six RBIs and Andy Schwall at .316.
They blanked the defending Lakes Grand Champion Brookfield Bulldogs, 2-0, on Saturday.
They next visit Muskego, the current Eastern co-leader with New Berlin, at noon June 17 at Horn Field.
Central's Owens, Craig earn Academic All-State honor
Eric Owens and Dominic Craig, both of West Allis Central High School, are Academic All-State honorees for the 2012 golf season.
To receive this honor, they had to have a cumulative grade-point average of at least 3.5, play in at least 75 percent of the team's varsity matches and be at least a sophomore.
A record 218 boys from around the state were honored this year.
Smith qualifies again for NCAA III track meet
Marcus Smith, a West Allis Central graduate, qualified for this year's NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in both the 110-meter hurdles and the triple jump.
Smith qualified 17th in the hurdles with 14.62 seconds and third in the triple jump with 50 feet, 2 inches. Smith had competed in both events at previous NCAA III championship meets.
