Lightning girls claim volleyball championship

The West Allis Lightning girls volleyball club captured the 15-and-under championship at the Volleyball Festival in Phoenix at the end of June.

The girls went unbeaten in the weeklong event, which featured 75 teams.

Team members are Annie Staskunas, Jaime Supple, Elizabeth Machi, Mati Ardis and Katherine Machi, all of West Allis; Andrea Bauer and Kelly Murphy of Mukwonago; and Amanda Durst of Brookfield. The coaches are Kari Fischer and Michelle Chapman.

West Allis' Teetz wins bowling championship

Henry Teetz III of West Allis captured the singles championship at the 2012 National USBC Open bowling tournament in Baton Rouge, La.

Teetz rolled an 800 series with games of 232, 279 and 289 back on April 1, and that score stood up during the 151-day tournament, which concluded earlier this month.

Teetz has competed in the event 20 times and holds an average of 203.5 over the years.

Greenfield's Kasten makes WIAC All-Time Soccer Team

Derek Kasten of Greenfield, a Whitnall High School graduate, was named to the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference All-Time Men's Soccer Team.

Kasten played at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 2001-03.

The team is named in conjunction with the conference's centennial celebration.

Junior Popes schedule tryouts for baseball team

Tryouts for the Junior Popes baseball program will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Aug. 11.

The U-8 and U-9 group tryouts will run from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. and the U-10 and U-11 from 2:30 to 4 p.m.

Also, coaches are needed for the U-8, U-9 and U-11 age levels. Teams will play between 14 and 20 league games and three to five tournaments per season.
