West Allis - After a rugged start last week, the West Allis Hale baseball team bounced back with a pair of victories.
The Huskies closed the week with a 12-2 triumph over Brookfield Central on Saturday. Alex Elenteny and Brian Kimpel both went 4-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs each, while Sam Versnik brought home two runs and Taylor Tomczak one run. Dan Sotiros collected two hits.
Elenteny also picked up the victory on the mound, allowing four hits and striking out two in five innings.
One night earlier, the Huskies nipped Greendale, 9-8, scoring three runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to wipe out an 8-6 deficit.
Versnik and Marcel Mundt both belted home runs, with Versnik adding a double. Elenteny, Patrick Heal and Dan Sotiros each totaled two hits to round out the offense.
Hale fell to Sussex Hamilton, 7-2, on June 28 despite RBIs from Elenteny and Kimpel.
The Huskies dropped a 5-1 contest to Greater Metro Conference champion Menomonee Falls on June 25. Sotiros drove in one run for Hale, which had only two hits. Kimpel took the loss, giving up nine hits.
Hale came into this week at 9-10 in the GMC and 13-12-1 overall.
The Huskies met Muskego in the regular-season finale Monday, then played in the conference tournament which begins Tuesday. The tourney concludes Friday, with every team playing three games.
The Huskies then take on St. Thomas More at 5:30 p.m. July 10 at Belich Field in the opener of WIAA tournament play.
If they win, they visit second seed New Berlin West, the Woodland Conference Blue Division champion, at 5 p.m. July 13 in a regional title contest.
If Hale wins the regional, it would get to play at home, as the sectional is slated for Belich Field on July 16.
