West Allis Hale's Riche dropped runners, topped records
Huskies' linebacker named All-Suburban
Jordan Riche made both opposing runners and school records fall this football season.
The West Allis Hale senior linebacker collected 104 tackles, with 49 solos and 55 assists, which not only established a school record but led the Greater Metro Conference.
Riche also forced seven fumbles, which set another school mark and placed him second in the state in that category.
In addition, he recovered three fumbles and made one interception in generally making a mess out of opposing offenses.
"He was a force and a playmaker week in and week out from the inside linebacker position," head coach Brandon Ehret said. "He was all over the field. He made plays sideline to sideline and had a nose for the football."
For his relentless play and strong defense, Riche made the 2013 NOW All-Suburban team.
Riche gave the Huskies an All-Suburban linebacker for the second straight season, as he followed graduated senior Alex Schwab in 2012. Riche made honorable mention on last year's squad.
"Jordan has really had a couple of great seasons," Ehret said. "He's a high-energy kid who has great instincts."
Riche started playing competitive football in fifth grade with the West Allis Badgers. He initially played quarterback but switched to linebacker in his freshman year at Hale.
"That was my choice," he recalled. "I enjoyed the contact and bringing the runners down."
He certainly was adept at it, as his technique was strong and his tackling sure.
He was a bright spot in a disappointing overall season for the Huskies, as they went 1-8.
"We fought in a lot of our games," he said, "and we played Sussex Hamilton tough (14-7). It just seemed that one mistake always cost us."
Riche plans to continue playing football in college and is looking at some Division 2 and 3 schools, including some in the University of Wisconsin system.
