Huskies announce team basketball awards
The West Allis Hale girls basketball team announced its awards for the 2012-13 season last week.
The offensive player of the year was Sarah Mueller, the defensive player of the year was Rachel Milani, and the most improved player was Rachel Seefeldt.
The top newcomer with her first year of varsity experience was Delaney Mielke.
The captain's award went to Jenny Jender, Seefeldt and Milani; the coach's award to Katie Liban and the hustle award to Adalia Sexton.
Mueller led the Huskies in scoring and rebounding, Seefeldt in assists and steals and Milani in blocked shots. Sam Schuh paced the team in free-throw percentage and Kara Placzek was the student-athlete of the year.
"When we started the season, we had a vision of where we wanted to take the program, and we made incredible progress top to bottom," head coach George Sotiros said.
Wisconsin RAP holds hoops tourney at Central
The Wisconsin RAP Shooting for Hope Classic will be held on April 14 at the West Allis Central High School field house.
The three-game tournament is open to boys and girls in the U-14 to U-17 age group and there is a $100 team registration fee. The tournament benefits the American Cancer Society, with $1 from all admissions going to help the fight against the disease.
