Bats lift Huskies to 2-0

May 29, 2012

West Allis - A strong hitting attack has helped the West Allis Hale baseball team to a 2-0 start to the 2012 season.

The Huskies downed New Berlin West, 11-6, on May 24 behind four hits, including two doubles, and two runs batted in from Nick Sotiros and two hits and two RBIs from Dan Sotiros. A total of eight players drove in runs for Hale in the game.

Nick Sotiros picked up the victory on the mound, pitching three innings.

Hale also beat Waukesha West, 14-11, on May 23 as Alex Elenteny, Marcel Mundt, Zach Smith and Nick Sotiros all drove in two runs.

The area's other three teams also launched their seasons last week, with the following results:

Central

The Bulldogs tipped Muskego, 4-3, on Friday as Michael Manlick allowed five hits and struck out seven in a complete game. Josh Neary doubled and drove in a pair of runs for Central, which improved to 1-1.

Central fell, 14-7, to Greendale on May 24 as Jason Alvarez went 2-for-4 with a double, triple and RBI.

Hale and Central will meet for the first time this season at 5:30 p.m. June 1 at Belich Field.

Greenfield

The Hustlin' Hawks lost two games last week, one a shootout and the other a pitchers' duel.

They dropped a 3-1 decision to Brookfield East on May 24 as Peter Eidsmoe gave up nine hits but struck out 11 in six innings. Zach Davis had two hits and drove in one run.

Greenfield lost a 15-12 barnburner to Whitefish Bay on May 23. Nick Jablonski went 4-for-4 with a double, triple and five RBIs and Eidsmoe, Tyler Haim and Tyler Laverdure each drove in two runs.

Whitnall

The Falcons started 0-2, but that record could easily have been reversed.

They lost a 9-8 game in eight innings to West Bend West on Friday as Sam Mentkowski and Ian Ray both drove in a pair of runs, and they fell, 1-0, to Brookfield East on May 23. Josh Serio doubled and struck out five in six innings against East, but Ray took the loss on the mound.
