starts flu clinics
West Allis — The West Allis Health Department held its first flu clinic this week and plans to hold four more.
They will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Oct. 4 at the West Milwaukee Community Center, 1345 S. 47th St.; from 4 to 7 p.m. Oct. 14 and 22 at the West Allis Health Department, 7120 W. National Ave.; and from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 15 at the West Allis Senior Center, 7001 W. National Ave.
The clinics are open to the public and appointments are necessary only for evening clinics.
The cost of the flu shot is $25, but it is covered by Medicare Part B, so participants must bring their Medicare cards to the clinic.
Children from 6 months old to 18 years who are covered by BadgerCare or who have no vaccine coverage can get immunized for free.
The Health Department recommends a yearly flu shot for everyone at least 6 months old.
Car leasing to be
urged to save cash
West Allis — West Allis will encourage employees who go long distances on city business to use rental cars instead of their own cars to save money.
Alderman Michael May suggested leasing instead of reimbursing employees the federal 56 cents per mile because it saves hundreds of dollars on long trips of short duration.
Because only $310 would have been saved last year by leasing, the Common Council didn't change city policy, but aldermen did approve of encouraging leasing for long trips.
