Normal parking rules
to apply during snowstorms
West Allis — To reduce confusion over where to park during snow emergencies, West Allis officials decided to stay with the city's practice of alternating side street parking for all local streets.
However, there will continue to be no parking on main roads such as Lincoln Avenue during snow emergencies.
But for residential streets, the Common Council voted to drop the past practice of having cars park on the same side of the street for the duration of a declared snow emergency. Regular residential parking restrictions will apply for all overnight parking.
color, life to school
Greenfield — Come spring, Edgewood Elementary School should be a bit more attractive to both people and butterflies, thanks to the efforts of about 20 students.
The students planted 300 daffodil bulbs, milkweed and other plants so that the garden can be a certified Monarch Waystation.
The daffodils were donated by Longfield Gardens, an online e-commerce bulb site.
Car leasing to be
urged to save cash
West Allis — West Allis will encourage employees who go long distances on city business to use rental cars instead of their own cars to save money.
Alderman Michael May suggested leasing instead of reimbursing employees the federal 56 cents per mile because it saves hundreds of dollars on long trips of short duration.
Because only $310 would have been saved last year by leasing, the Common Council didn't change city policy, but aldermen did approve of encouraging leasing for long trips.
