Greenfield panel backs plan that could accommodate Mormon church

A proposal that would lay the groundwork for a Mormon church sanctuary on an unused section of Arlington Cemetery cleared the Greenfield Plan Commission on Tuesday.

Arlington Cemetery, 4001 S. 27th St., is asking to create three parcels, one of which could accommodate the church on its 5.1 acres.

The cemetery's request could be discussed by the Common Council, which must ultimately approve the plan, as early as next week, though a public hearing on the Mormon church plan itself won't be held until Dec. 4.

Planning commissioners also approved an unrelated request, a proposed meditation garden.

Kopp's Frozen Custard, 7601 W. Layton Ave., is proposing illuminated panels for the meditation garden it wants to create. Fence panels would be separated by glass artwork cubes, which can be internally illuminated. That issue could also be discussed as early as next week before the council.
