Chalk up beginning of election season
School candidates must make intentions known
Want to run for School Board? You have until 5 p.m. Jan. 5 to let your school district know.
Residents can begin filing paperwork for inclusion on the April 6, 2010, election ballot. If necessary, primary elections would be held on Feb. 16.
Greenfield/Whitnall
Two spots are up for grabs on the Greenfield School Board while three will be elected to the Whitnall School Board, whose jurisdiction includes part of the city of Greenfield.
The Greenfield seats are now held by Cathy Walsh and board President Pam Sierzchulski. Greenfield board members are elected to three-year terms at a salary of $4,200 per year.
The Whitnall seats are occupied by Suzette Larson, Michael Clarizio and Rick Kollauf. Candidates are elected to three-year terms and make $3,000 per year.
Interested residents need to file a declaration of candidacy and a registration statement at their respective school district administration offices. The Greenfield administration building is at 8500 W. Chapman Ave., while the Whitnall School District office is at the high school, 5000 S. 116th St.
West Allis-West Milwaukee
In the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District, four residents will be elected to the School Board, with the length of terms determined by their finish in the election.
The top three vote-getters will be elected to three-year terms for the seats currently held by Annette Frymark, Susan Stalewski and board President Joanie Luedke.
The fourth-place finisher will serve one year for the seat now held by George Sotirus, who was appointed recently to serve out the remainder of the term held by the late Bob Kitchen.
In addition to the declaration of candidacy and registration, West Allis-West Milwaukee residents also need to file nomination papers with no less than 100 and no more than 200 signatures. The paperwork should be filed at the School District administration building, 9333 W. Lincoln Ave.
WA-WM School Board members make $6,720 per year; the board president earns $7,765.
Primary or not?
Primary elections for school candidates depends on whether there are more than twice as many candidates filing for the open seats by Jan. 5. For instance, a minimum of five candidates would have to be on the ballot in Greenfield.
