First garden plots
to be available in park
West Allis — Applications are being accepted for the first community garden to be opened by the West Allis-West Milwaukee Community Garden Committee this spring in Rainbow Park.
The garden plots will be on the west side of the park, off the 700 block of 119th Street near Walker School and tennis courts. Two sizes — 20-by-20 feet and 14-by-16 feet — are available. The cost is about $20 to $30.
A diagram of the garden plots and an application form can be obtained through the University of Wisconsin Extension by calling (414) 256-4606 or by emailing email@example.com.
The Milwaukee County Parks also are collaborating in the garden plot effort. Residents are encouraged to apply soon, because nonresidents will be allowed to have plots as part of the joint project.
The Community Garden Committee will continue to encourage creation of new garden sites in various West Allis-West Milwaukee locations and promote healthy living.
The committee meets at 3:30 p.m. the first Tuesdays of each month at the West Allis Public Library and newcomers are welcome to come and learn more about it, discuss gardening and possibly join the committee.
