Nathan Hale student's death being probed

Three persons were questioned at the West Allis Police Station in connection with an incident that led to the death of a 16-year-old boy suspected of shoplifting, police said Friday.

The incident happened shortly after 4 p.m. Dec. 14 at a convenience store at 92nd Street and Schlinger Avenue in West Allis. When police arrived, they found the boy being restrained by customers. The boy had stopped breathing and police immediately began CPR. Fire Department personnel took over when they arrived and resuscitated him. He was then taken to Froedtert Hospital in Wauwatosa where he later died.

The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is reviewing the actions of all those involved, West Allis Acting Police Chief Charles Padgett said. The three who were questioned at the station were interviewed the day of the incident. Police will not release details of the incident until the investigation is complete and the DA's office has made its determination, he said.
