Incumbent West Allis aldermen favored

Feb. 21, 2012 | 0 comments

West Allis - The two incumbent District 2 aldermen had the highest vote totals in the five-way race in Tuesday's primary balloting.

Kurt Kopplin and Marty Weigel will be joined by challengers Cathleen Probst and Scott Bunker in the April 3 general election.

Eliminated in balloting was Ryan Wargolet, who was a distant fifth.

Totals are unofficial before the board of canvassers meets and do not include provisional ballots or late-arriving absentee ballots.

Unofficial results are:

Kurt Kopplin 341

Marty Weigel 284

Cathleen Probst 268

Scott Bunker 233

Ryan Wargolet 78

Kopplin, 67, a purchasing agent at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is finishing his fourth four-year term. Weigel, 52, owner and operator of Benno's Genuine Bar and Grill, was appointed to the council in 2003 and has won election twice since then.

Probst, 46, is owner of Teaching for Success, an educational consulting business, focusing on relationship building to enhance learning; and until recently, was a teacher for 16 years with the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District.

Bunker, 56, owns a restaurant in downtown West Allis.

Wargolet, 32, is in hotel management.

Two of the remaining four will be elected District 2 aldermen. All remaining seats also expire in April, and the general election will feature other aldermanic races in addition to District 2.

Aldermen receive $7,384 annually. Terms start after the April election.
