West Allis Library has lots of preschool doings

West Allis - Registrations are being accepted for January preschool and toddler story times at the West Allis Public Library, 7421 W National Ave.

Toddler and Me Story Time for 2-year-olds with a caretaker will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Wednesdays, Jan. 9, 16, 23 and 30. The last 10 minutes of each program will consist of playtime with age appropriate toys.

Afternoon Story Times for children ages 3,4 and 5 will be at 1 p.m. Mondays, Jan. 7, 14, 21 and 28 and Tuesdays, Jan. 8, 15, 22 and 29. Story times include a craft activity. The adult who brings the child must stay in the library during the session.

Pre-School Story Time for ages 3 through 6 who are not enrolled in kindergarten are at 6:30 p.m. Tuesdays. Sessions include a craft activity. The adult who brings the child must stay in the library during the session.

All the programs are free to Milwaukee County residents. Registrations required.

Retired men's club presents monthly speakers

West Allis - The West Allis Retired Men's Club presents different speakers at its monthly club 9 a.m. breakfast meetings, open to all retired men and women, regardless of where they live.

On Jan. 10 at Apostle Presbyterian Church, 76th Street and Orchard Avenue, Joanne Reuss will serve as "Income Tax Consultant."

On Feb. 14 at First United Methodist Church, 76th Street and Lapham Avenue, Ben Yamada will present "World War II Japanese American's USA Memories."

A $3 donation to help offset the cost is asked.

Leisure Timers set travel, music programs

West Allis - The West Allis Public Library, 7421 W National Ave., is offering some new Leisure Timers programs in 2013 for those who want to start their week on the second and fourth Mondays of the month with a fun and relaxing activity.

The Leisure Timers program is designed for adults who enjoy both live presentations and films about various subjects of interest, including travel and history. Presentations begin at 10 a.m. and last about an hour.

The upcoming schedule for the first part of 2013 is:

Jan. 14: Phyllis Gorell presents "Scotland: Highlands and Islands" (slides)

Jan. 28: Dale Kuntz presents "Remembering WWII: Songs and Movie Stars of the War Years" (musical clips on 16mm film)

Feb. 11: Peter Lee and Karen Levy present "Soaring Peaks, Grasslands, and Bison Bones: Souvenirs of a Road Trip Across the American West" (slides)

Feb. 25: Ed Janus, author of the book Creating Dairyland, presents "The Remarkable Story of Dairying in Wisconsin: Historical Pictures" (slides)

March 11: "Green Paradise: South America--Chile" (DVD)

March 25: "Bill's Excellent Adventure to National Parks of Southern Utah" (slides)

April 8: Jane Stoltz presents "Free Wheeling: Travel by Bicycle to Various Areas of the U.S." (talk/slides)

April 22: Harriet Pfersch and Mark Steckhahn present "Hawaii: A Glimpse of the Past and the Future" (slides)

May 13: Railways of Italy (DVD)

June 10: Robin Russell presents "A Personal Testimony of Climbing to the Mount Shasta Summit(talk/slides)
