Karl Vierthaler of Greenfield was named to the dean's list at the University of Central Florida for the spring 2009 semester.

Brittini Kompas of West Allis has been awarded an Achievement Scholarship for $1,000 to Mount Mary College for the 2009-10 school year. The Achievement Scholarship is a renewable award presented to students who have demonstrated a high level of school, community involvement, service, leadership or success outside the classroom. Brittini is a 2007 graduate of West Allis Central High School.

Justin Almquist of Greenfield will perform as Senex in "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" at Carroll University from Nov. 12 to 15. Justin is a history and theater arts double major. He is a 2008 graduate of Greenfield High School and the son of David and Maria Almquist of Greenfield.

Benjamin J. DuFour graduated from the United States Marines Corps boot camp at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego on Aug. 28. DuFour is a 2004 graduate of West Allis Central High School.

• U.S. Army Reserve Pvt. Nathan G. Poulakos graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. He is the son of Dennis and Patti Poulakos of West Allis and a 2003 graduate of West Allis High School.

• U.S. Army National Guard Pfc. Spencer M. Szymczak has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. Spencer is a 2009 graduate of Greenfield High School and the son of Barbara Schlund of Milwaukee.

• U.S. Army Reserve Pvt. Luis I. Castillo has graduated from Basic Combat Training at Fort Sill in Lawton, Okla. Luis earned distinction as an honor graduate. He is a 2008 graduate of West Allis Central High School and the son of Daniel Castillo of West Allis.

Rose M. Monacelli graduated from the U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps Leader Development and Assessment Course at Fort Lewis in Tacoma, Wash. Cadets in their junior and senior year of college must complete the leadership development course. Upon successful completion of the course, the ROTC program and graduation from college, cadets are commissioned as second lieutenants in the U.S. Army, National Guard or Reserve. Rose is a student at Boston University. She is 2000 graduate of Divine Savior Holy Angels High School and the daughter of Amedeo R. and Kathy M. Monacelli of Greenfield.

• U.S. Air Force Airman 1st Class Shane A. Ramlow has arrived for duty at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware. Shane is an aerospace maintenance apprentice and is assigned to the 436th Airlift Wing. He is a 2008 graduate of Waukesha South High School and the son of Gina Duncan of West Allis.

YOURNEIGHBORS

The Heart of Harmony Chorus from West Allis placed 5th in the Land O' Lakes District Annual Competition of the Barbershop Harmony Society in Rochester, Minn., on Oct. 24. The group includes 24 men. The Heart of Harmony Chorus is now in its first full year of existence.
