Greenfield High School head football coach resigns

May 01, 2014 2:59 p.m. | Scott Otto, who has served as the head football coach at Greenfield High School since 2010, has resigned his coaching duties as of Tuesday, citing professional reasons.

He made the statement:

"In the interest of doing the best job possible for the school district as the associate principal and athletics and activities director at Greenfield High School, I've decided to step down as the head football coach.

"In the four years that I have served as the coach, the Hawks' football program has grown and improved, and the program is well-prepared for future success. I am proud of our accomplishments and I look forward to seeing the current players prosper on the field, in the classroom and in the community."

Otto will remain as the associate principal and athletics/activities director and the school district will begin seeking a football head coach, immediately.

Police called after motorists fight over parking spot at Old Country Buffet

May 01, 2014 8:17 a.m. | A woman called police after a driver backed up and almost struck her vehicle in order to get a parking space at Old Country Buffet on April 21.

According to the Greenfield police report:

The woman was in the parking lot at Old Country Buffet, 4902 S. 76th St., about 5 p.m. April 21, when another driver backed up and nearly struck her vehicle. The other driver was trying to get a parking space.

The woman said she honked her horn at the other driver, who then "flipped her off" and told her, "Why don't you die?"

The woman then became frustrated and made sarcastic comments to the other driver.

Police called when fight breaks out in drive-thru lane

April 30, 2014 2:54 p.m. | A caller reported a fight between two males in the drive-thru at McDonald's on April 26.

According to the Greenfield police report:

A caller reported a fight between at least two males in the drive-thru at McDonald's, 5040 S. 76th St., about 1:30 a.m. April 26.

The caller reported a male from one car confronted another male in a vehicle behind him after driver of the vehicle honked at him while waiting in the drive-thru lane.

One of the males was struck in the face and knocked to the ground during the altercation.

Man hospitalized after trying to break up fight between two females

April 29, 2014 10:34 a.m. | A man was taken to a hospital after he was blindsided while trying to break up a fight between two females April 19 in Greenfield.

According to the Greenfield police report:

The man was trying to break up a fight between two females in the 4500 block of West Forest Home Avenue at about 2:25 a.m. April 19 when he was blindsided. Greenfield Fire and Rescue took him to St. Luke's Hospital.

The man named an additional suspect, and police are following up.

The police report did not indicate how the fight started.
