by Susan Bach
Wisconsin Better Business Bureau

My father was a Navy veteran who landed on Normandy Beach on D-Day, June 6, 1944. Even though he’s no longer with us, I don’t like to see or hear about a scammer taking advantage of any veteran or active duty military personnel.

New Gun Law

What's your opinion of the conceal/carry gun law that went into effect in Wisconsin this month?  I am very aware that our world is not safe.  But, I am also not ready to purchase a gun.  Will the law bring on more crime and shootings?  Will the gun crime be reduced?  I'd like to hear what you have to say!

Time for Our Children's Series

It is time again for the West Allis Players' Children Series. We will be presenting three shows this season beginning with an exciting story performed by Children's Theatre of Wauwatosa Teen Troupe. This show will be at 2 p.m. December 4.
"The Crying Princess and the Golden Goose" is the tale of a young princess who peeled an onion and now cannot stop crying. Her father, the king, offers her hand in marriage to any man who can make her laugh for three minutes.
The story gets really interesting when three brothers, in search of the thief who has stolen the onions from their kingdom, come upon a beggar woman who gives them a golden goose. She warns them that people will try to steal the goose. The brothers must then find their stolen onions, protect the goose and make the princess laugh.
Wow -- quite a story with a strange combination of folk tales all rolled into one.
The play is acted by teens and is aimed at the younger audience. Running time for our children's shows is about an hour and tickets are $4. We present these shows at West Allis Nathan Hale High School, 11601 West Lincoln Avenue (the theater entrance is actually on 117th Street.) Show time is 2 p.m. and we will be done in time for the Packer/Giants game!

Happily Ever After....

I am going to lay it on the line.  I have been married twice.  Yes, twice.  I am not ashamed of it nor do I claim to be an expert.  The first time was at the Court House wearing maternity gear, second occurred in my living room.  Let’s just say neither was traditional.

I have been in love, more than once.  After 25 years of dating, long term relationships and the “L” word, I have some sort of experience in this area.  Consider this a puzzle.  Take whatever pieces necessary to assist with your current situation.

Christmas Shopping

If you were one of the many shoppers who stood in line, stayed up late or got up early to hit the sales on Black Friday, good for you.  I hope you got some great deals.  I will never do it; never have; never will.  But, that's my choice.  The deals are meant to "lure" customers into a store so they buy more.  Then again, you can get some good deals if you stick to your budget and don't buy on impulse.  That's what the big box stores want you to things you may not have intended to purchase.  I'm old fashioned - don't appreciate the greed and I want, I want, I want of Christmas.  I do like the time spent with family and friends - handmade gifts, homemade goodies, sharing with others and just the "colors" of the holidays.

Try to get out and enjoy the beautiful Christmas displays that so many people take the time to set up around and on their homes.  Don't forget Candy Cane Lane in West Allis.  If you can, walk through it - you'll get to see each and every display up close and personal.
