The West Allis Charities is having their Crazy Cash Raffle right now! Only 5,000 tickets will be sold = a 1:33 chance for those, who purchase three tickets. It is easy to purchase by mail. Here is the link to the order form. By purchasing these raffle tickets, you could be helping someone like Sam.

Do you remember Sam? For those of you, who don't recall his story, here is a recap of his situation.

In May 2008, 12 year old Sam walked to Wilson Elementary School. Shortly after arriving at school, he experienced extreme back pain. The school contacted his parents immediately, and Sam was taken to Children’s Hospital. As the day progressed, Sam became paralyzed from the waist down. His diagnosis was Anterior Cord Syndrome/Transverse Myelitis. This rare virus attacks the nervous system through the spinal cord causing paralysis. There were no first floor accomodations for Sam at home, nor was it known what medical funds were going to be needed immediately and in the future.

It was a great feeling when I received the following message. Denise, Sam's mother, provided us with an update. "In addition to the contributions that were raised, we also had "sweat equity" help from family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers. Sam is doing well and is glad to be back in school. He has been in his new room and he loves it! The wheelchair accessible shower and toilet have given him the independence he so desired. It's also been nice not having to run him back and forth to the YMCA for showers. At times, the project seemed to be never ending. We muddled through our share of speed bumps and delays, but eventually, we were ready for the project's final inspection and occupancy was granted!  It was a long-awaited milestone! Thanks again to you TJ for everything you have done!  We are forever indebted to you and to West Allis Charities!"

I would only hope each and every person gains a better understanding of how important the funds we raise are to the community. It is a life changing event like Sam's, which confirms why the West Allis Charities exists and must continue its mission.

The Crazy Cash Rafle is another avenue for us to fund raise. It is fun for participants, an affordable charitable contribution, and the top four prizes ($10,000, $6,000, $5,000, and $4,000) are a great incentive to try your luck. Raffle tickets also make great stocking stuffers and gifts for any occassion.
