Thursday meeting program: Sept. 10th,
Two Milwaukee Sheriff Deputies and their canine pal "Bowie" visited our Club.
The Sherriffs Deputies explained how a dog works with his handler in drug busts. They demonstrated how the dog reacts and disarms a suspect by grabbing onto their arm or other convienitnt body part and not letting go until given the command.
One of the breeds best suited for this work are Belgian Shepards. At an early age, male Shepards are tested and selected based on their personality. Only aggressive, intelligent and basically fearless dogs are selected.
Training techniques develop a mindset that sniffing out drugs along with pursueing and detaining a criminal are a game. Therefore, the dog subdues the criminal with a single bite with the sole purpose of holding on until help arrives.
