Laura's Corner

I work very hard and am attending college to obtain my degree in the Human Service field. Writing makes me feel alive and gives me the opportunity to touch those whom I would not be able to otherwise. Last but not least, I have been blessed with two amazing daughters who love me completely and support my dreams. Feel free to contact me with questions, concerns or feedback.

Screw You Chicago!!!!

How many people agree with me regarding the title of this blog?  If you do, raise your hands!  I know exactly how you feel and I believe we could create a united front.  Let’s do this already!!

Chicago, the band created in the late sixties, was formed by Robert Lamm and Peter Cetera.  Those two madmen made it truly impossible to NOT fall in love, giving everyone in the world a reason to live.

“If you leave me now”, is a song which basically leaves us feeling wounded if our partner decides to take the low road.  The main chorus goes as follows:  “And If you leave me now, you'll take away the very heart of me, oooh no, baby please don't go, oooh girl, I just want you to stay.  A love like ours is love that's hard to find how could we let it slip away?  We've come too far to leave it all behind how could we end it all this way?

This is the perfect NON break-up song.  Think your partner is going to split?  Go ahead and lie in bed, make sweet love to them and play this during the act.  Sing it between kisses and make sure you hit repeat or it will move on to something so much more cheerful such as “I Will Always Love You” or “Here and Now” by Luther Vandross.

Love songs get us.  They bring us to our highest high when we are in love.  Yet the very minute our lovers decide to move on, we hit our lowest lows.

Journey is another band we should just rid the planet of.  How many lighters must we go through when the song “Faithfully” comes on?  I believe Al Gore wrote something about this being the main problem regarding environmental issues, right?

Same thing goes with that card distributor.  You might have heard of them, something by the name of Hallmark?  How many cards must we purchase and tear apart before we get the idea that this is not the main reason recycling was created.

What many fail to realize is that we are hooked on love.  We choose “a song” when we are in a relationship.  We walk through the aisles to find the “perfect” card to express how we feel about the one we love.   We throw our everything into love, something we can’t help but do.  When you love someone, you invest your energy, emotions and feelings into something you believe in.

I am protesting.  I am going to ask you all to join me.  I am going to throw out every CD I have that includes any and all love songs.  I am sure that I will have very few if any CD’s left, but I am willing to go the extra mile.  I am going to ask radio stations to give us one hour every day that we can be assured not to hear love songs or any which may accidentally include the “f” word.  (And yes, I am talking about “forever”.)

Love cannot be found in a song, nor can that song make or break us.  What we need to do is focus on the person in front of us.  Is he or she doing whatever needs to be done to ensure that we feel safe or are we walking on eggshells once or twice a week.  Either way, keep the love songs off the radio for awhile and focus on the behaviors and actions of whomever you are holding hands with.  If they meet your needs, spend time with them.  If not, move on.

PS:  Steve Perry, if you are out there, I am available Friday night!  Call me!
