Laura's Corner
I work very hard and am attending college to obtain my degree in the Human Service field. Writing makes me feel alive and gives me the opportunity to touch those whom I would not be able to otherwise. Last but not least, I have been blessed with two amazing daughters who love me completely and support my dreams. Feel free to contact me with questions, concerns or feedback.
You want to be President because?
Don’t get me wrong, I am not an expert on this subject. When reading the paper, I skim over anything regarding government unless it has to do with scandal. While others get their panties in a bind over who is voting for whom, I hit Starbucks for my favorite Double Blended Grande Caramel Frappucino. While sipping, I realize just how good life is because I refrain from these types of conversations.
If you have read my previous posts, very few hit on politics or religion. My main objective is to stay as close to home as possible, give others common sense insight on hot topics. It’s not about being right; it’s about what has or has not worked for me in the past, simply put.
I would love to sit down with the President. Any president, past or present. One question runs through my mind, may have run through his prior to his decision to run for office.
"What is the main reason you had the desire to become President of the United States of America?" Or, short and sweet, per a 5th grader, “You wanted to become President because?”…
Being President of the United States has you living under a microscope for 4 or 8 years. Your family lives within a gated compound and your children are now put at risk. They more than less likely attend school with the Secret Service. Don’t believe me? Just watch that fancy pants movie with Amanda Bines or any other teen that starred in a movie about the president’s daughter. You are required to purchase a dog, and that dog must go through a vigorous screening along with the breeder as well. Your yearly salary is less than real estate agents, lawyers, brokers, physicians, AIG CEOs, freelance writers and others. Porn stars and Playboy Bunnies make more than you as well. Your life belongs to the people of the great U. S. and A. You hear bitching and complaining on a daily basis and are expected to solve the world’s problems. One could go on and on, but let’s move forward.
Why we believe one man is capable of running an entire country consisting of billions of human lives is beyond me. Let’s be honest. Regardless of how far off the beaten path a man is , he will not stop and ask for directions. What is the President supposed to do on Air Force 1? “Hey, guys, pull the plane over, I think we’re going North instead of South? I am going to run in the gas station over here to ask the clerk which direction Pakistan is.” You know for a fact that he will allow that plane to fly to England before breaking down and admitting he “might have gone the wrong way.”
Allowing one man the power to make or break laws, rules and regulations without knowing him inside and out is a gamble. Always has been, always will be. Isn’t it hard enough to trust a man we have been intimately involved with for 5, 10, 20 years? Not saying that there aren’t some good guys out there, but you know what I mean. Who created the system we have regarding government, politicians and law? Men! How many women signed the Declaration of Independence? None! Could it be the fact that if we had, they knew we’d finally get it right?
I say we restructure how we run this country and do what England has done for so many years. It’s time we get a Queen and her court in office. Put them in charge. The Queen must someone who has life experience and listens, a woman who has a proven track record of behaving herself despite temptation. A woman who is not only a mother and a grandmother, but a woman who has been a savior to the motherless as well. A woman who has surpassed menopause so that men won’t say, “It must be that time of the month.” How about someone who has loved and lost, survived cancer or another terminal illness. How wonderful it would be to have someone in charge who actually understands women’s health, the loss of a child, or the choice of an abortion? Let’s vote in one successful, educated woman with a proven track record and women from each decade to tackle the needs of the people. Give them a week a Martha’s Vineyard, a day at the spa, along with a mani-pedi, and I can guarantee you that slowly but surely, our world will be a better place.
Let’s shake it up and do something different. Regardless of how you felt about Sarah Palin, most believed that through her we as women would finally have a voice. This is a woman who not only had a child with a disability, but also went through the real experience of teenage pregnancy. Love her or hate her, if she comes back, she will get my vote again.
