I have a beautiful healthy rose bush (for once) in my yard, but I always get asked about caring for roses so that they look their best. My best advice - pick the right rose for the place you want to put it. You need 6 hours of full sun, good air circulation, a hardy disease resistant variety, and one inch of water per week. Pick up any fallen leaves or flower petals off the ground, try to water only the ground around it (not the leaves) and watch for any signs of disease. The quicker you treat the problem, the better.

West Milwaukee building would include village financing help
A new building that Product Service and Manufacturing Corp. might develop in West Milwaukee would include $396,000 in village financing, under a preliminary agreement approved by the Village Board.
The $2.2 million development's property taxes would repay that amount within about eight years, said Village Administrator Kim Egan. Once that debt was repaid, through a tax incremental financing district, the building's property taxes would go to the village, its school district and other local governments.

Dating done different...
As a follow up to my previous blog, I thought long and hard. Someone posed a question about becoming best friends with your future partner. I decided to whip something up. Hopefully it’s light and fluffy, bakes right and comes out of the oven deliciously.
Expectations with dating cause some to avoid the scene altogether. What’s the 3 day rule? A guy waits three days to call? What’s the 3 date rule? There must be some sort of sexual exchange? We must find out if the car has a 4 cylinder or a V8? After a few thoughts, I decided to go in a completely new direction.
What Kind of Lettuce is That?
I planted a mixed variety of lettuce in my garden this year and as I watched it grow I wondered exactly what kinds of lettuce it was. One of the plants in the row didn’t look like a type of lettuce, so I wasn’t sure if I should pull them out because they were weeds or leave them because they were some type that I didn’t recognize. I decided to find out – after all, I didn’t want to eat it and find out its poisonous or something! The package said “Mesclun”, which I knew meant “mixed”. I dug out the seed packet and in fine print it listed quite a few types. I looked for pictures of them on the internet just to be sure. This is what I found.
Mesclun means "mixed" in Provencal and is traditionally composed of several varieties of wild-harvested, young greens. Most mesclun sold today is cultivated--planted as beds of mixed lettuce seeds harvested when the leaves reach the desired size of 3 to 6 inches). Look for mixes that contain young, sweet leaves from a variety of tender lettuces, maybe a bit of curly endive for texture, some peppery watercress or arugula for bite, and maybe a few herbs. Some farms and markets sell special "spicy" mixtures that have more arugula, watercress, mezzula, and mustard leaves.

Hey parents, listen up! I am not instructing you on how to parent, or what to do in case of an emergency. I am speaking on behalf of all hard working citizens who spend their hard earned money to escape their own. You know the ones who rarely get a night out, by themselves. Two adults, deserving of some quiet and, (possibly even) a piece at the end of the night.
I have worked long and hard to reach this point; more freedom and individuality than not. As a mother of adult daughters, let me tell ya! With one working and attending college, the last but never least working, I am finally able to do whatever for the most part. Walking into a quiet home, being able to watch television or listen to music without compromise, sitting and doing absolutely nothing, it’s about as close to heaven as one gets.
I Pay Taxes, I want New Roads
I've lived in West Allis for about seven years now and I've got to say...our roads are bad and getting worse. It's not just West Allis, but, as this is my home I'm far more concerned about our roads than anyone else's.
I think I've gotten complacent about it over the years, but a couple of recent surgeries have reminded me just how bad the pot hole and crack situation truly is. My husband drove me six blocks to the Pick n' Save a couple of days after my surgery and I almost cried the entire way. Every few feet, another pot hole or crack in the road shook the car, causing me some pretty fiesty pain. I started thinking about what all the banging and clanging is doing to the car itself.

It's ONLY A Baseball - Or Is It?
I recently saw a story on National News about a boy in the stands caught a baseball at a game. Another boy who also tried to catch the ball, was visibly upset because he did not get the ball. Within a matter of minutes, the boy who caught the ball, gave the ball to the boy who was upset. Wow. When the boy who gave up the ball was asked why he did it, he said "Because It Was The Right Thing To Do". An act of kindness that both boys will remember for the rest of their lives. And, perhaps this boy who ended up with the ball will do an act of kindness for someone else and so forth.
American Nightmare...
One might think this article has to do with tragedies, suffering or something along those lines. It does, but that comes along much later.
From what I can remember, my parents purchased their own home in the early 70’s. Every single man and woman in my external family has owned their own home after renting a period of time. After the "I do's" husbands and wives set about finding a nest of their own. I have never really asked the why of it all, that’s just the way it was.
