Some insight into how (Sponsor's Name Here)'s mind works. I came across this headline while surfing Ye Olde Internet...
Actor Michael Landon's eldest son Mark found dead at West Hollywood home at age 60
My first thought was that Michael Landon didn't seem old enough to have a son that was now 60. Also, since 60 isn't really that old, I decided to click the link and check it out. Then I read the first couple of paragraphs...
WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. (AP) -- Mark Landon, an actor and eldest son of "Little House on the Prairie" star Michael Landon, was found dead Monday at his home. He was 60.
The cause of death was not immediately clear but there was no evidence of foul play, said Sgt. David Infante of the Los Angeles County sheriff's office.
OK, so it doesn't appear to be some seedy Hollywood murder, a la Bob Crane. But there were only two paragraphs left, so I read on...
Mark Landon, among Michael Landon's nine children, appeared in three movies, including "Us" - a CBS television movie written and directed by his father in 1991 just before he died of cancer at age 54. The film was a pilot intended to be another series for Michael Landon. It aired a few months after his death.
So if Michael Landon died 18 years ago (has it really been that long?) at age 54, that would make him 72 if he were still with us. For him to have a 60 year old son would make him 12 when Mark Landon was born. "Scandal!" I thought. For Michael Landon being such a beloved figure, it seemed very odd that a skeleton that juicy in his closet would have tarnished his reputation. My mind started racing; "To Google, to Wikipedia, to find the truth I must! But first, let me read the last paragraph of this story, then on to true journalism!"
Michael Landon also starred in such shows as "Bonanza" and "Highway to Heaven." He adopted Mark Landon after marrying his mother, Dodie Levy-Fraser, in 1956.
"Oh, I see", said I. Sigh. Mark Landon was an adopted stepson. Certainly noble of Michael Landon to adopt him, innit?
But that headline could have been considered quite misleading. So I figured if AP can give a misleading headline, so can a moke blogger like me!
