He was alone, abused, and helpless. A little grey and black tabby was living outside, which wasn’t ideal. But his circumstances went from bad to worse when a couple of kids forced his body to the ground and cut off his whiskers. Then they tried to drown the poor boy.
A sweet Miniature Schnauzer pup arrived at WHS with a lame rear leg, hobbling unsteadily as if her leg wasn’t there at all. When our veterinarian did x-rays, she found that Ruffles had broken her leg not long before arriving at WHS. It’s scary to think about the force that was needed to break the sweet girl’s leg. She had to have been terrified and in great pain.

Give Wisely This Season
The continuing battle over taxes and spending in Congress leaves many Americans wondering how much they’ll have to pay in taxes next April 15. But one thing is sure: You can only deduct charitable gifts made by the end of this year on your 2011 return.

Resolutions and such
Each year around this time, I begin to think of the who, what, where, when and why of the resolution. For some, it’s a time to purge. For others, it’s a time to work out, rehab or may be a promise of change. Whatever category you fall into, we continue to make the same commitments as last year and the year prior.
It’s almost impossible to give up something which has been a part of your existence. Drugs, alcohol, food, shopping, materialism, excess, etc, all have a tight hold and have no plans on letting go. They’re available, around and will always be within arm’s reach. Those we relate to are an intrinsic part of these situations as well. Birds of a feather, well, you know.
Children's Series
On January 22, The West Allis Players will be presenting the second in our Children's Series with the play "The Land of the Dragon." This show, being done by the Village Playhouse of Wawautosa, is based on the story of Cinderella, done with an Asian flair. The show will last approximately an hour.
Christmas Is Like A Wedding
I was thinking the day after Christmas that the holidays are like a wedding. All the preparation and expenses and then it's over in a flash.
From what I could tell, the store and mall parking lots before and even now are packed with cars - this can be a good thing for our economy. It can be a good thing even for us frugal people who like "big" bargains. I'm buying for next year's gifts already. I pack them in a box and mark the box so that I know what's in it and I'm ready for next year's gift giving. I've also got some ideas for homemade treats that I've found in some of the magazines I've come across (Thank you, Martha).
