Bring hope to homeless animals

He was alone, abused, and helpless. A little grey and black tabby was living outside, which wasn’t ideal. But his circumstances went from bad to worse when a couple of kids forced his body to the ground and cut off his whiskers. Then they tried to drown the poor boy.
A sweet Miniature Schnauzer pup arrived at WHS with a lame rear leg, hobbling unsteadily as if her leg wasn’t there at all. When our veterinarian did x-rays, she found that Ruffles had broken her leg not long before arriving at WHS. It’s scary to think about the force that was needed to break the sweet girl’s leg. She had to have been terrified and in great pain.
Fit to be Tied
A day in the life of a couch potato
(This blog will be continually updated on Sunday 12-11-11, as long as I have something interesting to say.)
It dawned on me, this is Week 14 of the NFL season, and I have yet to spend an entire Sunday honoring Lord Football.
Nip it in the bud-get
With Christmas fast approaching, most likely we are scrambling to find the perfect gift. Along with the perfect gift comes one of two things: cash or credit.
With the economy in the gutter, so many of us wonder, how do we save? How do we avoid going overboard, not just now but all year long? Are there practical ideas regarding keeping the money in our pockets in lieu of the opposite?
"No, Virginia. You didn't win the lottery."

Recently, I was sitting at my desk listening to one of my colleagues, Tracy, talk to a consumer on the phone. She’s only a couple of cubicles over, so I can hear her end of the conversation pretty well.
Is nothing sacred?
(Sponsor's Name Here)'s Official Daughter, Gooey, won an award from the Milwaukee Urban League as part of their "Do the Right Thing" program, and her and about 100 other students were honored at the Recognition Ceremony Tuesday evening (December 13). Gooey's award was for "Academic Achievement".

BBB Tips for Hassle-Free Returns & Exchanges
It happens every year: you get or give a gift that isn’t quite right.
A survey by the National Retail Federation showed more than one in three consumers, 38 percent, are expected to return at least some portion of their holiday gifts.
Santa, I just want a home.

The Wisconsin Humane Society is hoping to place hundreds of homeless animals into loving homes in December. What better way to express the spirit and compassion of the holiday season than by helping an animal find a home? For many families that are taking vacation time to spend at home this season, there is no better time to adopt.
Late December Gardening Tasks
This list is from the calendar that Steins Gardens & Gifts posts online to help remind you of gardening tasks that should be done... Not much to do in December, but these are good suggestions to keep your gardening thinking cap on! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year everyone!
Give Wisely This Season
The continuing battle over taxes and spending in Congress leaves many Americans wondering how much they’ll have to pay in taxes next April 15. But one thing is sure: You can only deduct charitable gifts made by the end of this year on your 2011 return.
Charities know that the holiday spirit of giving and year-end tax planning lead many Americans to make their donations in December. As a result, mailboxes often are stuffed with charitable solicitations as well as catalogs this time of year. We urge everyone to check out charities first at wisconsin.bbb.org to see if the organization meets our 20 Standards of Charity Accountability.

Resolutions and such
Each year around this time, I begin to think of the who, what, where, when and why of the resolution. For some, it’s a time to purge. For others, it’s a time to work out, rehab or may be a promise of change. Whatever category you fall into, we continue to make the same commitments as last year and the year prior.
It’s almost impossible to give up something which has been a part of your existence. Drugs, alcohol, food, shopping, materialism, excess, etc, all have a tight hold and have no plans on letting go. They’re available, around and will always be within arm’s reach. Those we relate to are an intrinsic part of these situations as well. Birds of a feather, well, you know.
Children's Series
On January 22, The West Allis Players will be presenting the second in our Children's Series with the play "The Land of the Dragon." This show, being done by the Village Playhouse of Wawautosa, is based on the story of Cinderella, done with an Asian flair. The show will last approximately an hour.
Christmas Is Like A Wedding
I was thinking the day after Christmas that the holidays are like a wedding. All the preparation and expenses and then it's over in a flash.
From what I could tell, the store and mall parking lots before and even now are packed with cars - this can be a good thing for our economy. It can be a good thing even for us frugal people who like "big" bargains. I'm buying for next year's gifts already. I pack them in a box and mark the box so that I know what's in it and I'm ready for next year's gift giving. I've also got some ideas for homemade treats that I've found in some of the magazines I've come across (Thank you, Martha).
