Day 10 - State Fair Blog done (Sponsor's Name Here)-style

2013 State Fair, Free market, James family, State Fair, Television, YouTube, West Allis, Vacation

Day 10 from 2012 (includes links to all previous Day 10s)

A handful of non-developed thoughts heading into closing day...

  • There are 4,300 people in town for the 2013 USA Triathlon Age Group Nationals being held at the lakefront.  On the same day that 100,000 are eating four-thousand calorie binges just a freeway ride away.  Any chance some of those 4,300 are going to head west for a bit of celebrating their successful weekend?

  • As I was not parking cars yesterday afternoon (another curse of moving a mile further away before last year's event) I was surfing the TV and noticed a show on the Travel Channel about various foods at State Fairs around the country (it looked like it was produced last year).  Wisconsin's was featured, and they had the expected feature on the cream puffs (they were a lot larger than this year) along with brief features on fried cheese curds, fried butter, fried beer, fried ravioli and chocolate covered bacon.  Then I had a salad.

  • At least I have (or could) try all of the stuff at the Wisconsin State Fair.  Can't say that about the Maggot Melt at the Colorado State Fair.

  • After 10 perfect days, looks like rain in the forecast for the final day.  If attendance isn't at near record levels for the year, I don't know what could be done to increase it.  Maybe a real-live race during the event?

  • If you are going to the Fair, patronize your local neighborhood neighbor.  They're working hard at parking cars on their lawn to make a litle extra money for a late-summer vacation, school clothes for the kids, or to donate to a Native American tribe.  But this is their last day... go show them some love.

  • Finally, this is the last day of summer vacation for some schools.  International Baccalaureate schools (like Ronald Reagan and Rufus King) run on an international schedule, and start classes tomorrow.  I know that (Sponsor's Name Here)'s Official Daughter, Gooey, isn't quite as excited about this as she could be.  She changes that tune when her school year ends before Memorial Day, though.
