I work very hard and am attending college to obtain my degree in the Human Service field. Writing makes me feel alive and gives me the opportunity to touch those whom I would not be able to otherwise. Last but not least, I have been blessed with two amazing daughters who love me completely and support my dreams. Feel free to contact me with questions, concerns or feedback.
To cut down on stress while driving, there have been times when I will simply lower my rear view mirror as to avoid seeing what’s behind me. Because I get slightly nervous when someone’s on my tail, this greatly reduces my desire to drink and drive.
All kidding aside, focusing straight ahead works for me. This not only works while driving, but in life as well.
When we continue to look into our rear view, we forgo the amazing and wonderful blessings ahead. At times it’s difficult because memories may trigger negativity. Certain individuals, places and even music remind us of what was. It’s hard to completely escape and remain focused, but the sooner we do, the sooner we can begin to experience peace.
Many, and you know who I am talkin’ ‘bout Willis, refuse to let go. Certain individuals believe it’s their mission in life to remind you of what you were. No matter that you were 5 years old and lost a turtle, someone, some day is going to remind you of that particular situation. Not exactly sure why, but it may alleviate them from their own personal shenanigans from 1985.
Whatever the case, I have a thought, an idea, and a notion. Each and every one of us has a past. Each and every one of us has made choices which have been less than desirable in the eyes of others. Each and every one of us lives with guilt, fear and worry that one day, our secret will be exposed. And it may.
What do you do when confronted with a guilt? How do you handle a family member who doesn’t ask about your future, yet is stuck on your past? I’ve got a few ideas, one of which may help.
A fellow tattooed friend recently said, “If you want the fire to go out, quit feeding it.” What he meant was, “There is absolutely no reason to respond. People are going to say what they want, whether it’s fact or not. Stop, drop, roll away and find those who find the good in you.”
My first suggesting in dealing with those who attack is to walk away. I know you want to speak your mind, I know you want to one-up them, and I know you want to defend yourself, but it’s not necessary. The person you’re confronting is looking for attention, and by you giving it to them, they’re winning.
My second suggestion is to block that person from your social networks. This includes your cell phone, email accounts, facebook, myspace or anywhere else you socialize on a regular basis. There is absolutely no need for anyone who doesn’t have your best interest in mind to have access to your heart.
My third suggestion is to work on rebuilding your worth. It’s incredibly difficult to break free from bloodlines when you’ve been raised to believe that “family is most important”. Family to me equates to those who love me unconditionally and love me enough to give me input about any situation they deem necessary. These individuals feel safe enough to give it to you straight, and love you nonetheless.
Last but not least, forgive. I have decided this is the most important part of the equation. My thought is this: I forgive you because I refuse to allow your words and actions to cause one more negative moment, discussion, feeling and emotion in my precious life. My mind, body and spirit are intimately reserved for those who are loving, kind, honest, compassionate, encouraging, uplifting, positive and trustworthy.
That said, it is also important to recognize your own thoughts, feelings and discussions throughout the day. Are you continually gossiping about others? Do you always feel the need to tell it like it is, despite the fact no one is asking for your input? In order to live a stress free life you must change your own beliefs and attitudes about people in general. If you’ve always found yourself speaking negative in lieu of positive, recognize it and do everything in your power to make that change.
I hope everyone has an amazing weekend filled with peace, love and happiness! Find yours today!
