So I was happily minding my own business at work earlier this week, when I get an E-mail from my cousin (Side note; I am still not going to divulge names of friends and family, so go with me on this. This cousin is one I'm reasonably close with, but with a first name - and I didn't remember her husband's last name - that made me first think "That damn SPAM filter missed one") with the subject line "It's Me".
I almost didn't open it. And by 5:00 tonight, I may wish that I hadn't.
It appears that cousin #1, along with her two daughters and another cousin are trying out for the Family Feud at a contestant search in Appleton, and needed another
mark, er, I mean one more player. I thought about it for a minute, considered eschewing the grass cutting, grilling the traditional Father's Day Eve hamburgers and listening to the race cars whining around the track a mile away and said "Um, BIG MACS, Steve?".
I'm headed to Appleton.
Except appearing on The Bowling Game (with my cousin's ex-husband, by the way) in 1991 and appearing three times on All-Star Bowling, I've never been on a game show. Being the ham that I am, I am excited about it. I can see it now... Finding out we were selected... Heading down to Atlanta for taping... getting a kiss from Richard Dawson, Ray Combs, Richard Dawson, Louie Anderson, Richard Karn, John O'Hurley or Steve Harvey... Acing the first part of the Fast Money... Watching my cousin blow it when she only needs 48 points and can't come up with an answer for "Name a watch manufacturer" and says "John Cameron Swayze"... The quiet ride back on the plane and blaming her for costing me thousands of dollars....
It'll be fun. I'll let you know how it goes.
