I am a huge fan of the television show, “Supernatural.”Just ask my friends, including Katherine Beeson. They have threatened to have an intervention for me. I am not obsessed with the show or the stars of the show. I have a…healthy…affection for them. Yes, that’s it, a healthy affection. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
For those of you who don’t know what “Supernatural” is, you will have to check it out online. To understand the rest of my post, I will just say that the stars of this show are Jared Padalecki, Jensen Ackles and Misha Collins. They are Yumm-yie!!!
I have to admit that my “healthy affection” has cost me quite a bit of money so far. They have conventions for “Supernatural” fans, like me. The stars are at the conventions and they answer questions, sign autographs and pose for pictures with the fans. I went to a convention in Chicago in October 2010. The only drawback was that Jensen (my favorite) would not be at this convention. I decided to go anyway. I was very excited to actually meet two of the three in person and have my picture taken with them.
I discovered, shortly before the convention, that a last minute change in plans made it possible for Jensen to be at the convention too. Be still, my heart! I also bought the famous J&J sandwich. (That is, a photo of Jensen and Jared with me!) I call it the Triple J Sandwich, Jensen, Jared and Joan. I also paid $500 for a private Q&A with Jensen. I know what you’re thinking $500, are you crazy???!!! I’m not crazy. I have a healthy affection for them, remember?
My friend, Cindi, and I arrived at 9:20 a.m. and waited for a short time before they announced it was time for the photo ops. I swear an electric charge filled the room upon those words. I’m sure I was giving off some pretty good voltage myself. I had four photo ops scheduled. One was with Jensen and Jared. One was with Jensen alone. One was with Jared, Misha, me and my friend and one with Misha and me alone. As I entered the room for the first photo op, I saw Jensen and Jared, in the flesh, in the same room, breathing the same air and realized how incredibly gorgeous they were. The line worked its way around the perimeter of the room and as I walked around the room I was struck by how gracious these two men were with their fans. Standing there with both Jensen’s and Jared’s hands on my back, I thought I had died and gone to heaven. I felt like I was twelve years old, seeing Shaun Cassidy for the first time at Alpine Valley again.
Before I knew it, it was almost 11:50 a.m. and time for my Private Q&A with Jensen! Now, a lot of my friends, as I said earlier, think I am obsessed. No, no, no. Not even close. I met a delightful lady while waiting for the Q&A. She was Asian and seemed to be around 45 years old. I learned that she lives in Japan and this was her ELEVENTH convention!!! Not one of my friends can ever say that I have a problem. Ever!
I had a great seat in the second row, for the Q&A, with a direct line of sight to Jensen about 5 feet away. As a group, we had many conversations with Jensen ranging from his directorial debut, to working with babies, to how he likes to spend his free time. I actually was able to have four different conversations with him myself. I could talk about it for hours. In fact, I have talked about it for hours. (((Katherine’s interjection: FOR DAYS, WEEKS -- FOREVER.))) The Q&A session lasted for a half hour. It was amazing and worth every cent of that $500!! The convention also included a stage presentation when fans can approach a microphone and ask questions. These three guys were hilarious and we were all in stitches.
I am now counting the days until the L.A. Convention in February. Since I will be in L.A. anyway, I’m setting up meetings with agents and casting directors that I have been communicating with on Twitter. I don’t know if I’m more excited to meet with agents or to see my boys again. There had better not be any flight delays!!
